Custom Lumber
Custom lumber is wood sawn from your own logs to your exact specifications. Instead of purchasing pre-cut, store-bought material, you supply the logs and we mill them to the dimensions required for your project. Whether you need true-dimension boards, specialty sizes, trailer flooring, beams, or unique cuts not available at retail yards, custom sawing allows you to maximize the value of your timber and produce material tailored specifically to your needs.

This page explains the full process—from selecting quality logs and understanding lumber yield, to pricing, transportation to the mill, and important considerations before sawing begins—so you know exactly what to expect and how to get the best results from your timber.

Why buy directly from a sawmill
-
Big box stores often sell mass produced low quality lumber. Their wood is often warped, limited dimensions or lower density / structural strength material.
-
Sawmills offer true dimension lumber - a full 2x4
-
Higher grade hardwoods
-
Specialty cut lumber
-
Any number of species local to the region
-
By purchasing from our mill your supporting a local veteran owned business which keeps the money in our community and lets you deal directly with the owner to meet the needs of your project.
Log Hauling to the Mill
There are two ways to get your logs to the mill. You can haul them yourself, or you can hire us to pick them up.
Customer-Hauled Logs
If you have your own truck, trailer, or equipment, you are welcome to haul your logs to the mill yourself. Logs must meet our minimum size requirements and be accessible for unloading when you arrive. This option works well for customers who already have the equipment and want to save on hauling costs. Please ensure you have coordinated the drop off prior to arriving.
Log Pickup & Hauling Service
If you do not have a way to move logs, we offer log pickup and hauling using our grapple truck. As long as the logs are accessible, we can load, transport, and unload them efficiently. In most cases, no customer equipment is needed.
Logs must be:
-
Accessible by truck
-
On reasonably firm ground
-
Positioned so the grapple can safely reach them
If access is tight, ground conditions are poor, or logs are scattered, additional time and cost may apply.
Hauling Pricing - $150 per hour
Log hauling is billed by the hour, with a minimum charge of $150. Pricing is based on:
-
Time required for loading and unloading
-
Distance from the mill
-
Site access and conditions
-
Log size and handling difficulty
Hauling is priced separately from sawing. Please contact us for a hauling estimate before scheduling pickup.
Custom Sawing Pricing
All custom sawing is performed on customer-owned logs and is billed based on the actual board feet of lumber produced.
Board Foot Rates
Pricing is based on log size:
-
Small logs – $0.55 per board foot
(Up to 16 ft long and up to 18" diameter) -
Medium logs – $0.65 per board foot
(Up to 16 ft long and 18"–28" diameter) -
Large logs – $0.75 per board foot
(Over 16 ft long or over 28" diameter)
Hardwood Surcharge
-
All hardwood species are +$0.15 per board foot
(Oak, hickory, maple, ash, walnut, and similar species) No surcharge for poplar.
Hardwoods require more power, slower cutting speeds, and cause increased saw tooth wear.
Minimum Charge
-
$150 minimum charge per job
This covers setup time, handling, and normal wear on equipment.
Yield Disclaimer
Final board-foot yield depends on:
-
Log quality (knots, sweep, taper, rot)
-
Customer-requested dimensions
Narrow framing cuts and poor-quality logs will reduce total yield.
Metal Policy
Logs are scanned with a metal detector prior to sawing; however, embedded metal cannot always be detected.
-
Damage to saw teeth or blades caused by embedded metal is the responsibility of the log owner.
-
Tooth replacement or blade damage will be billed at actual replacement cost.
Additional Notes
-
Extremely difficult or unsafe logs may be refused
-
Special handling may result in additional charges
-
You will be notified once your lumber has been cut. It is your responsibility to pickup the lumber in a timely fashion.
If you have questions about expected yield, we are happy to discuss your logs before sawing.
